A recluse painter’s careful routine is shaken up when a mysterious young woman knocks on his door. An encounter that will confront him with his past.

The art of solitude

Solal Klein is a man imprisoned in a chimerical world, entirely created by his own mind.

Haunted by a troubled past, he lives outside the real world, confined in a mental prison that he has built up over the years. Solal is a wounded man who invented his own world in order to avoid reality.

As the story progresses, the border between dream and reality gradually fades, inviting us to question the reliability of the narrator.

Through a carefully crafted and meticulously executed aesthetic, Hugo Parthonnaud presents us with "Le somnambule," a captivating and melancholic work featuring Sergeï Phillipenko, Chloé Jouannet and Albert Delpy.

"Time takes everything away...
and nothing comes back..."

Solal's loft, as you'll discover in the film, was entirely conceived and created for this story. The work of set design by Ibaï Hernandorena goes beyond mere representation of physical space, it becomes a means of exploring profound themes such as solitude, love, and mortality.

The dark and deserted streets of the city, overrun by vegetation and industrial ruins, testify to the emptiness of the external world for Solal, while in his apartment, his paintings and creations, faithful companions, give meaning to his solitude, which will be disrupted by an unexpected visit.

After "Ad Hominem" and "Eva K.," "The Sleepwalker" is Hugo Parthonnaud's 3rd short film.
